Habitica is a free and fun online browser and app RPG (role playing game). It recently changed its name, before mid 2015 it was called “HabitRPG”.

Their pixel artwork is heartwarming for a first generation gamer like me.
Now check this out: the XP, gold, ranks, armour and items you get depend on how well you stick to your personal goals, tasks or soon-to-be habits.
It’s my preferred way of keeping my goals in mind, rewarding myself for stuff I want to do more often and satisfying my ever present gaming urge.
You can create goals, dailies, weeklies and habits entirely to your liking. For a rough phase, one could create goals like “get up three times this week” or “I answered the phone!” and for more energetic times “I did something courageous”, “I actually looked at her face” or “cleaned bathroom”. You can customize and use all tasks as you please.
Avatars aren’t gendered <3 and get to win silly costumes and wild “animals” (flying pig, desert panda, zombie cactus… wait…)
The community and the collective who run Habitica make an effort to keep all public interactions as nonjudgmental as they can.
There are guilds and groups for every kind of motivation and RPG company one can wish for. The Autistic Adventurers, the Wordsmiths, the Nerdfighters, the Anxiety Alliance, the Basics, Young Adult Unprepared, and hundreds more. They offer challenges (“good things today challenge”, “clean your house challenge”, “basic meditation challenge”, “eat fruit every day challenge”, “make a phone call challenge” a.s.o.) and chat rooms for encouragement or, well, chatting.
